Sheri Moore Anders – Lady Trojan Basketball / Softball 1992 - 1994

From small town to small town, Sheri Moore Anders found a home at Mississippi Delta Community College just up the road from Greenville. Excelling on the softball diamond, the basketball court and in the classroom, Anders set a course for continued success.

“I got the call and I was honored. I grew up in the Mississippi Delta my entire life and then went to Mississippi Delta Community College. Moorhead was a great place to go to school and I enjoyed my time there,” Anders said.

The Greenville Christian School alum would continue her education and playing career at the University of Arkansas-Monticello. In basketball, she played forward and on the diamond, she was in the outfield and played shortstop.

Looking back at her career, she was honored as First Team All-State in Softball and Second Team All-State in basketball. She was also named the MDCC Female Athlete of the Year her sophomore season.

Former Lady Trojan Head Coach for both softball and basketball, Buddy Walden

“She was an outstanding player and played the two, three, four and five player. She was a very good athlete, could shoot outside and rebound. She thought she could play the point but she really couldn’t. That was the best team I had,” Coach Walden said. “In softball, it was basically the same thing. She came the year after we won the state championship. She played shortstop and was an outstanding hitter.”

While at MDCC, Anders' favorite memory was the small-town feeling of Moorhead and the school.

“I don’t think I would have gone to a big school and survived all that. I loved all my teachers and my favorite was Doc (Allen) Snowden,” she said. “It was a great community. Baseball was really good at that time. The football team won a National Championship then.”

She also enjoyed making friends out of former high school rivals.

“IA was our biggest rival with Charisse Stratton and Shannon Horne and little Amber Moore. Shannon and I played together at Moorhead and became best friends,” she said. “It was so crazy all being rivals and then we all became great friends being on the same team.”

Looking back, when asked to play softball by Coach Buddy Walden, who coached basketball and softball, she was first worried about her studies. After talking to Doc Snowden, she decided to play.

For more than two decades, Anders has been a Special Education Teacher and has a Master’s from Troy University and is working on an Educational Specialist Degree. She married Ashley Anders, a football coach and they have lived and worked in Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia. They have three children – the eldest graduated from Mississippi State University and is a sports reporter for CBS 44 in Georgia, their youngest daughter is a junior in high school and committed to play softball at Georgia Tech as a left-handed pitcher, their son attended The United States Military Academy at West Point and played football and is currently a student at Duke where he is a tight end on the football team and pursuing an Economics Degree.
