MDCC baseball picks up two wins on Monday

The Mississippi Delta Community College baseball team has had to fight Mother Nature like most programs around the Southeast, but were able to get two ballgames in on Monday evening in the state's capital.

The Trojans currently sit at 3-3 through six games after a two-game sweep of Belhaven University (JV) and Millsaps College (JV) on Monday night at Smith Wills Stadium in Jackson. MDCC defeated Belhaven by a 2-1 score in the opener and grabbed a 5-1 win versus Millsaps in the nightcap.

Parker Lane (Columbus) leads the offense through six games, as the sophomore outfielder/infielder is currently hitting .474 with two doubles, one home run and four RBI. Ty Riche (Brandon) has been hot in the early going as well, as the sophomore infielder is hitting .391 with one double and one triple and has 11 stolen bases through six contests.

Jonathan Snuggs (West Monroe, La.) has been the star of the Trojans pitching staff thus far, as the freshman left-hander is currently 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and has 11 strikeouts and only one walk in six innings pitched.

Kellen Spann (Clarkdale) is the recipient of the other team win, as the sophomore right-hander went three scoreless innings on Monday versus Belhaven, grabbing the win and four strikeouts in the process.

MDCC is set to travel to Chalmette, La., on Sunday to face Enterprise (Ala.) Community College at 2 p.m. and Nunez (La.) Community College at 4:30 p.m. at Noel Suarez Stadium in Chalmette.
