Riggs Easterling claims annual Trojan Games

Riggs Easterling (Shreveport, La.), a freshman infielder, claimed the individual championship, and Drewski's Broski's won the team portion, in the Mississippi Delta Community College baseball program's annual Trojan Games on Wednesday afternoon.

Throughout the fall, the program competes in numerous mental and physical activities known as the Enid Cup Challenge, with both sides competing for points. Individual players can also win points in the competition. This year, the two teams were Drewski's Broski's and the Smurphs.

Easterling entered Wednesday afternoon's competition trailing Carson Chapman (Flowood) by three points, but was able to come-from-behind and claim a six-point win due to his efforts on the final day.

The Broski's team, led by Easterling, captured the overall win with 842 points and defeated the Smurphs, which finished with 579 points.

Day one of the challenge consisted of the Kubota Relay (team event), medicine ball toss, plate carry relay (team event) and question & answer relay (team event). All of the players on the winning team in the team events each earn 10 points apiece, while the losing team members all collect 5 points apiece.

In the individual events, the winner gets 10 points, second place gets eight points, third place earns seven points, fourth place earns six points and fifth place earns five points. All of those that participated in and finished an event each earned one point for competing.

Day two consisted of the 5-10-5 shuttle run, timed ½ mile run, backwards bag pull relay (team event) and a ping-pong competition.

The final day saw the Trojans compete in a three-point competition (individual & team event), pull-up competition (individual & team event) and finish with the grueling obstacle course (team event).

The top five players that placed are as follows:

1st place - Riggs Easterling (75 points) - Drewski's Broski's
