Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) is excited to welcome Jason Conner as its new athletic director.

Despite being born in Bristol, Tenn. and growing up in Lakeland, Fla.; Conner is no stranger to the Mississippi Delta. After earning his bachelor of arts degree in history from Belhaven College and completing his master’s of education degree at Delta State University (DSU), Connor served 18 years at DSU as both assistant and head coach for the Statesmen basketball team.

“Coach Conner brings a wealth of experience to his new role as athletic director here at Mississippi Delta Community College,” said MDCC President, Dr. Tyrone Jackson, “He will demand only the highest standards for the college’s student-athletes, both in the arena of competition and in the classroom. We couldn’t be more pleased to have him back in the Mississippi Delta and at the helm of our athletic department.”

Conner is excited about stepping into this new role.

“For the first time in 34 years, I am not a basketball coach,” Conner said. “I have served on every level of college athletics. I am very familiar with how important the two-year community college experience is for all of our student-athletes. My experience, gifts and abilities fit well into my new post, and I am very excited about the future of athletics here at Mississippi Delta Community College!”

In this new role as athletic director, Conner will oversee the college’s football, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s basketball while also serving as sports information director and primary athletic fundraiser.

“I am here to serve our coaches and to support and graduate our student-athletes,” Conner continued. “This school has a rich history in athletics, and we want to keep that history alive and well. We want to get our athletic alumni involved with the college. We’d love to see them back on our campus and taking an active part of what will be going on here soon!”

“I am excited about this new opportunity and very thankful to President Jackson, Burnadette McDonald, the search committee and the board of directors at Mississippi Delta Community College for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading Trojan Athletics into the future,” Conner concluded.
