MDCC grabs first win of the season vs. Coahoma

Mississippi Delta Community College grabbed an exciting come-from-behind victory on Saturday, as the Trojans defeated heated rival Coahoma Community College, 29-27, to spoil the annual Homecoming celebration in Clarksdale.

The win was the first of the season for the Trojans and moved MDCC to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the North division. CCC fell to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the North.

Delta quarterback Byron Walker (Sulphur, La.) had a big day through the air on Saturday, as the sophomore finished 24 of 39 for 384 yards and three touchdowns. His main man once again was Lebarron Jones (Mobile, Ala.), who finished with 11 catches for 168 yards, including a 63-yarder to set up the eventual go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes remaining.

Treveon Miles (Woodville) had nine catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns, with Tommy Washington (Yazoo City) being the recipient of Walker's other touchdown pass.

The Trojans defense was a force all ballgame, as MDCC picked up five sacks and 11 tackles for loss in total. The defensive unit also limited Coahoma to just 216 yards of total offense, with 188 yards through the air and just 28 yards on the ground.

George Jackson (Rolling Fork) did a little bit of everything for Delta, as the sophomore defensive back had eight tackles, two tackles for loss and three pass breakups. He was aided by the likes of Kelton Marshall (Wiggins), who had four tackles, two sacks and an assisted tackle for loss.

MDCC will return to the friendly confines of Jim Randall Stadium on Saturday, as the Trojans host North division foe Northeast Community College in the annual Homecoming game on the Moorhead Campus. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
