After two consecutive weeks of Saturday matchups, it's back to a Thursday night tilt for the Mississippi Delta Community College football team, as the Trojans will head to Fulton to take on Itawamba Community College at 6:30 p.m.
Delta is coming off their second straight victory after a 20-13 win over North division rival Northeast Community College on Saturday in Moorhead. The win moved the Trojans to 2-4 overall, but more importantly, to 2-2 in the North division. The Indians of Itawamba come in with an identical 2-4 overall mark and 2-2 record in the North.
Patrick Jackson (Columbus) has been a workhorse on the ground for the MDCC offense all season, as the sophomore running back is currently fourth in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) in rushing yards per game with an average of 91.7 yards per game. He has 116 carries for 550 yards with one touchdown on the ground, along with one receiving touchdown.
The Trojans have received standout play in a variety of roles to this point from Su'Metris Stewart (Hollandale), who has 23 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions, along with a kickoff return average of 34.1 yards per return and one touchdown. The freshman defensive back returned one of his interceptions for a 78-yard touchdown against Northeast and currently sits tied for third on the team in touchdowns scored.
Itawamba will bring a vaunted passing attack into Thursday's matchup, led by sophomore quarterback Clark Mills, who is currently second in the MACJC in passing yards with 1,500. He is 117-222 with nine touchdowns and six interceptions and averages 250 yards per game through the air.
Keshun Parker is the leader of the ICC defense, as the sophomore linebacker leads the conference in sacks (six) and tackles for loss (14.5) and is second in tackles with 58.
