Men's hoops winners of two straight

The men's basketball team at Mississippi Delta Community College has reeled off two consecutive victories to move to 4-3 on the young 2019-2020 season, as the Trojans picked up a pair of wins at the Northwest Community College (NWCC) Tournament in Senatobia during the latter half of the last week.

MDCC defeated Tennessee Prep, 87-73, on Thursday, Nov. 21, and knocked off Faith Prep (Ark.), 106-93, on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

In the win over Tennessee Prep, it was Darius Jackson (Plaquemine, La.) that had the biggest night of all, as the sophomore guard had 17 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and three steals to load up the stat sheet. He was joined by a number of teammates in the double-digit scoring department, including Terry Wallace (Aberdeen, 15 points), Anfernee Diggins (Greenville, 14 points), Cartisco Brown (Moorhead, 13 points) and Clinton Norfleet (Byhalia, 11 points). Wallace added four rebounds, Diggins had five rebounds and Norfleet had four assists to aid in the team's final stat line.

Latrell Carter (Memphis, Tenn.) was the Trojans leading scorer in the 106-93 win over Faith Prep, finishing with 16 points to go along with three rebounds. He was aided by Jackson's 15 points and five rebounds, as well as 12 points from Wayne Lewis (Florence) and 12 points, four rebounds and two steals from Wallace.

The two straight wins in Senatobia came on the heels of a 72-63 loss to Hinds Community College in Moorhead on Monday, Nov. 18. Jackson led the team in scoring with 22 points and had two assists, while Brown had 18 points, three assists and two rebounds in the defeat.

MDCC will once again play on back-to-back days over the Thanksgiving break, with the Trojans hosting Baton Rouge (La.) Community College at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25 and RA Prep at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
