Trojans softball welcomes 2021 class

Brad Grinstead, head softball coach at Mississippi Delta Community College, announced his signing class for the upcoming 2021 season on Thursday.

"I really like the athleticism and versatility of this group because a number of them are able to play multiple positions on the field" said Grinstead. "This bunch has great character and grit and we are looking forward to getting them here."

Morgan Bigbee / 5'5/ INF / Lexington, Miss./ Central Holmes Christian School

Multi-sport standout who lettered in basketball, softball and track & field… Voted Best Defensive Player all four years of high school softball as a shortstop and third baseman… Member of the National Honor Society and Student Council at CHCS, along with being a high honors graduate

Dallas Brown / 5'4 / INF / Union, Miss./ Union High School

Five-time letterman at UHS, where she was a standout utility player… Named to the All-District team in 2019 and 2020 after standout seasons as a junior and senior… Chosen as the team's Best Defensive Player at the conclusion of her junior campaign

Masyn Coleman / 5'3 / C, INF / Liberty, Miss./ Amite School Center

Multi-year star at ASC… Named to the All-District first team on two separate occasions… Was the two-time recipient of the Ashley Tolar Memorial Award… Chosen as the team's Defensive MVP, and also earned the team's Most Improved Player Award

Hope Crider / 5'5 / C, INF / Florence, Ala. / Waterloo High School

Starred at WHS in a multitude of positions, including catcher and infield… Earned the Defensive MVP Award three times in her career… Golden Glove winner who was named the Offensive MVP as well… Lettered in basketball, cheerleading and volleyball as well… Member of the school's Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Mya Ferguson / 5'1 / OF / Tupelo, Miss. / Tupelo High School

Lettered three times for the Golden Wave in the outfield… Disruptive force on the basepaths due to her athleticism and plus speed… Standout student at THS

Macey Hill / 5'7 / INF, OF / Dumas, Miss. / Pine Grove High School

Versatile standout that played both infield and outfield at PGHS… Three-time team captain who was also named Defensive Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year and All-Division… Member of the school's Beta Club and Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Club, as well as being a member of the FCA… ACT scholarship recipient who was chosen as the Rotary Club Student of the Month

Jada Jones / 5'4 / OF, INF / Hernando, Miss. / Lake Cormorant High School

Showed great versatility at LCHS, where she spent time in the outfield and middle infield… Also played on the school's soccer team, where she was a forward, sweeper and winger… Standout student who finished in the top 15 of her graduating class, earning a graduate of special distinction honor… Mississippi Scholar and Hall of Fame recipient at Lake Cormorant… Named Miss LCHS and was the Executive Student Body President… National Honor Society representative who also served as a Gator Buddy and was a class committee and FCA member

Reilly Kate Lack / 5'10 / OF, P, INF / Boyle, Miss. / Bayou Academy

Highly-versatile athlete who lettered in basketball, softball and track & field at BA… Earned the Most Improved Player Award on two separate occasions in softball… Iron Colt Award winner who was named to the All-Conference second team in basketball, as well as winning the Most Improved Player Award… Winner of the Highest Math Grade Award… Member of the school's Mu Alpha Theta and National Honor Society, as well as the Bayou Academy Hall of Fame

Mary Scott Lofton / 5'3 / INF, OF / Doddsville, Miss. / Bayou Academy

Three-sport standout in basketball, softball and track & field for the Colts… Named to the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) All-State team after her senior season, as well as being a three-time All-Conference performer in softball… Chosen for the MAIS All-Star game in basketball, where she was a three-time Most Valuable Defensive Player recipient… Named to the All-Conference team three times on the hardwood, as well as being given the Colt Award on two occasions… Earned the Coach's Award in track & field… Was named Most Athletic in her senior class… Member of the Community Service Club, Cleveland Cotillion Club, Envirothon team, Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy and the BA yearbook staff… Member of Mu Alpha Theta and the National Honor Society… High school teammate of fellow MDCC signee Reilly Kate Lack

Mckinley Newcomer / 5'7 / C, INF / Columbia, Miss. / Columbia High School

Versatile star that caught and played in the infield for CHS… Named to the All-District first team after her sophomore and junior seasons… Led the team in home runs during her high school career and was named Most Improved Player as well… Scholar-Athlete Award winner all four years, and was a member of the Save Club and Key Club… Student Council member who was a part of the school's leadership team… Honor Roll recipient

Faith Shankle / 5'3 / INF, OF / Senatobia, Miss. / Marshall Academy

Three-year letterman for MA, where she was a versatile standout as an infielder and outfielder… All-Conference honorable mention recipient on three occasions who was selected as the Rookie of the Year as a freshman… Given the team's Extra Effort Award as a junior… Also competed in cheerleading and track & field… Member of the Homecoming Court three times and was chosen as MA's Homecoming Queen as a senior… Served on the yearbook staff and the school worship team

Cassidy Simmons / 5'8 / P/UTIL / Aberdeen, Miss. / Amory High School

Played a number of positions at AHS, including pitcher, infield and outfield… Four-time letterwinner on the softball diamond…. Also lettered on the school's basketball team… Received the Christian Leadership Award… Member of the FCA at Amory High

Kyla Williams / 5'11 / INF, OF / Foxworth, Miss. / Columbia Academy

Athletic performer that played in the infield and outfield for CA… Earned All-District honors twice for her play on the field… Named the Co-Best Defensive Player of the Year for the district… Member of the yearbook staff and Key Club… Outstanding student who was a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the National Honor Society, as well as finishing ninth in her class and serving as the school's student body vice-president
