Women’s basketball picks up set of wins

The Mississippi Delta Community College women's basketball team has played a solid brand of basketball over the last 10 days, as the Lady Trojans have picked up victories in two of their last three contests.

The latest victory came on Tuesday night against Northwest Community College, as the Lady Trojans controlled the contest from the start and won by a count of 78-70. Erika Faulkner (Independence) was the top scorer for MDCC against NW, as she poured in 20 points to go along with six rebounds. Raelen Shelvin (Gonzales, La.) and Davion Watt (Independence) each added 12 points in the win.

MDCC traveled to Fulton on Thursday, Jan. 17 to take on Itawamba Community College, but did not achieve the desired result and fell to the Lady Indians, 66-49. Faulkner was the lone double-digit scorer on the night with 10 points.

The Lady Trojans, now 4-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play, also picked up their first Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) victory on Monday, Jan. 14, as they defeated Holmes Community College, 74-71.

Sabrina White (Jackson) and Faulkner were the big scorers against Holmes, as the duo poured in 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Lady Trojans have a quick turnaround before their next action, as they travel to Booneville to face Northeast Community College on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
