MDCC falls to Co-Lin

The Lady Trojans of Mississippi Delta Community College played host to Co-Lin Community College in women's basketball action on Monday night looking to grab a victory and move over the .500 mark, but things were not meant to be, as the Lady Wolves scored an 84-66 victory in Moorhead.

The loss dropped MDCC to 1-2 on the young season. Venita Williams (Southaven) led all Lady Trojans scorers with 14 points and pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds. She was trailed in the scoring department by Marlaysha Beamon (Canton), who had 13 points and four rebounds, as well as Antanisha Wade (Cleveland), who had 12 points, three assists and two steals.

Delta hit the road on Thursday, Nov. 7 to take on Dyersburg (Tenn.) Community College but were unable to come away with a win, falling by a score of 86-70. Sharnec Mosely (Nettleton) and Artavia Tate (Belzoni) each had 14 points to lead the team in points, and Tate added a steal as well.

MDCC picked up the first win of the 2019-2020 season, and first of the Tangela Banks era, on Monday, Nov. 4 in the season opener against Blue Mountain College JV.

Jacambriyona Cheatham (Macon) was the big contributor on the night, as she poured in 22 points, as well as three steals and two rebounds. Wade also scored in double digits with 11 points and finished with two steals as well.

The Lady Trojans return to action on Thursday, traveling to the Northwest Community College Tournament, where the team will take on Mineral Area (Mo.) College. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Senatobia.
