Trojans Pick Up Crucial MACCC Wins

Good Friday Good to Trojans

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans rose earlier than expected on Good Friday. The Trojans took the home double-header against Copiah-Lincoln, 5-4 and 2-1. Both games were tight with the Trojans almost letting Co-Lin slip back in. The Trojans took the lead in the second going up 3-1 in game one then added a run each in the fourth and fifth. Co-Lin put up a run in the top of the eighth and then added three more in the top of the ninth and had the bases loaded but couldn’t get past the Trojan pitching as reliever J Allen coaxed a final ground out to end the inning and pick up the game one win.

In game two, a 2-1 Trojan win, MDCC and Co-Lin both scored in the first inning. The Trojans added a run in the second and held the lead for the remainder of the outing. Tate Anderson started on the mound giving up three hits, three walks and one run over seven innings and picked up the win. 

The Trojans took traveled to Holmes Community College on Wednesday picking up two big wins, 4-2 and 7-4. The Trojans scored in the fourth inning on a Drew Jarrell double but Holmes tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth. in the top of the sixth, a fielder's choice by Blake Channell gave the Trojans the lead once more and they added two more runs in the top of the seventh. Holmes clawed back a run in the bottom of the seventh. The Trojans closed it out for the 4-2 win in game one. 

Thomas Kuhn provided led the Trojans with two RBIs. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Cade Oswalt and Jarrell each collected two.

A trio of Trojans hit the mound in game one with J Allen picking up the win pitching six innings giving up nine hits and one run but striking out nine. M Reed pitched an inning of relief giving up one run one walk but struck out one. N Koczka pitched two innings of relief giving up one hit but striking out two.

In game two against Holmes, the Trojans were down early, 2-0 in the first but put a run on the board in the top of the second and fourth to tie the game at 2-2. A four run top of the fifth inning gave the Trojans control of the game. An error scored one run, then a double by Blake Channell followed to extend the lead to 6-2. The Trojans added a run in the top of the sixth to close it out for the 7-4 win.

Colby Lafayette started on the hill for MDCC. He allowed four hits and two runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking four. Holton. Jacob Brooks appeared in relief for the Trojans. Channell, the number eight hitter for the Trojans, led the way with three runs batted in. The left fielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Thomas Kuhn and Channell each collected two hits for
MDCC.

The next outing will be Saturday as the Trojans travel to East Central for a double-header starting at 2:00 p.m.
