Baseball Splits in Tennessee

Millington, Tenn. - The Elgin Community College went 2-2 over the weekend. Assistant Coach Ralph Riske earned his 500th ECC win in game one's victory.

The Spartans move to 3-5 overall in the 2024 season.

Game One: Mississippi Delta 3, ECC 6

Noah Schlup earned his first win, pitching three innings of relief and registering four strikeouts while allowing one hit. Aiden Kashuba registered his first home run of the season as he recorded three RBI.

MDCC scored its three runs in the second and third inning to take an early lead. ECC chipped away and had a big fifth inning to take the win.

Elgin loaded the bases in the bottom of the third and fourth innings and brought runs in on sacrifice flies from Kashuba and Jaden Alberson to make it a 3-2 game.

Nick Weaver started the fifth with a single and Kashuba homered for the go-ahead run. Eli Johnson and Daniel Blickhan scored on a single from Andrew Flynn and a double from Alberson to clinch the 6-3 victory.

Game Two: ECC 12, Lake Area Post Grad 8

Team leaders included Jack Kerno in hits (three) and Jack Keck in RBI. Four players registered two runs including Kerno, Josh Genz, Josh Collins and Ryan Caccia.

Casey Farrell registered his first collegiate win. He pitched 1.2 innings, allowing no hits and striking out one.

The Spartans scored in the first inning after singles from Genz and Kashuba. While Kashuba was stealing second, Genz scored  the first run of the game.

Lake Area countered with one run in the bottom of the inning to tie it up before taking a 1-5 lead after four innings.

Genz, Kashuba, Kerno, Keck and Sierpien all hit singles as Caccia and Ty Sierpien were hit by pitches to take an 8-5 lead in the top of the fifth.

Two walks and a sacrifice fly from Sierpien brought in four more runs to make it a 12-5 game.

LAPG scored a total of three more runs, but Elgin was able to hold them off for a 12-8 final score.

Game Three: ECC 0, No. 1 Heartland 8

Kerno recorded the sole hit of the game as Lucas Aguirre tallied three strikeouts in 4.0 innings while Andrew Sloan registered two in two innings.

Game Four: Mineral Area 10, ECC 5

Chris Lara, Flynn and Weaver each recorded two hits, one run and one RBI as Patrick Nelson hit his second double of the season. Troy Petty tallied five strikeouts in 2.2 innings.

The Spartans take on the Judson University junior varsity team on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
