Tyler Harper headed to William Carey

Tyler Harper (Laurel), a freshman on the Mississippi Delta Community College baseball team in 2020, will continue his academic and athletic career at William Carey University in Hattiesburg.

Harper, a right-handed hitting catcher/outfielder, got off to an excellent start in 2020 before the season was cut due to COVID-19. At the time of season's end in mid-March, he was hitting .364 with three doubles, one home run and five RBI.

He also had a .636 slugging percentage and .417 on-base percentage, along with nine putouts in the outfield despite being a newcomer to the left field position.

Harper came to MDCC from Northeast Jones High School, where he was an All-District first team recipient who was also named to the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) All-State team. He also competed in the Crossroads Diamond Club D.M. Howie All-Star game and was chosen as the Defensive MVP at the conclusion of his senior season.

Harper will have four years remaining at WCU after being granted the 2020 season of eligibility back.
