Tre Hobbs named to GSC All-Decade First-Team

Tre Hobbs, a former Mississippi Delta Community College and Delta State University standout, was named to the Gulf South Conference (GSC) All-Decade first-team for baseball on Tuesday morning.

Hobbs, a Greenville native and graduate of Riverside High School, had a remarkable two-year career in Cleveland, including being named to the 2017 All-Tournament teams at the Division II College World Series, South Regional and GSC tournaments.

He had a junior season to remember in 2016, as he was named to the D2 Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) All-American second team, American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-American third team and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-American honorable mention team.

Hobbs was also chosen as the 2016 NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Year and ABCA/Rawlings South Region Pitcher of the Year, and was named to the All-South Region First-Team and ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region First-Team. This highly-decorated junior season also included him being named CCA South Region Pitcher of the Year, NCAA All-South Region First-Team, GSC Pitcher of the Year and All-GSC First-Team after going 13-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 102 innings pitched. He led Division II in wins with 13 and tied for third in the country with eight complete games.

For his DSU career, Hobbs finished with a 22-6 record, 3.71 ERA and 162 strikeouts to only 55 walks in 199 career innings. He finished ranked 10th in Statesmen history in wins (22) and fifth in career shutouts (four.)

Hobbs played the 2014 and 2015 seasons in Moorhead, where he was named to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State first-team after going 5-4 in 13 appearances as a sophomore. He had 48 strikeouts to only 26 walks in 63.1 innings pitched for the Trojans.
