Mississippi Delta Community College welcomes Coach Jeremy Patterson to the Trojan gridiron.

Coach Patterson spent the 2023 season at Mississippi Valley State University serving as the Assistant Head Coach Special Teams Coordinator and Linebacker Coach. His players led the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in kickoff return yards and was fourth in yards per return, top five in kickoff coverage and led the nation in fake punts with a perfect 5-for-5.

Patterson's linebacker room also led the Delta Devils in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks. The Cleveland, Mississippi native brings a decade of college football coaching experience and was an integral cornerstone of all phases of the Lane College Dragons football program where his coaching career began. The Dragons defeated Division 1 team Tennessee State University coached by former Ohio State and NFL running back, Head Coach Eddie George. Patterson's 2022 and 2021 special teams unit led the SIAC in kickoff returns yards, touchdowns and blocked punts. 

The Rosa Fort High School alum spent the 2020 season at Coahoma Community College as Defensive Coordinator/Linebacker Coach and he was noted for having the best linebacker recruiting class in the college's history. This led to Coahoma being ranked as the top-five defense in the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference (MACCC) with the #1 ranked rush defense in the conference and #5 ranked pass defense. Patterson's coaching acumen and defense distinction helped Coahoma to its first winning season in school history. 

The 2019 season, Coach Patterson served as the Safeties Coach/Passing Game Coordinator at #4 rank Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. This Division 2 Program went 11-0 in regular season play and won the 2019 Great American Conference (GAC) Championship. Patterson coached two GAC All-Conference players who were also Academic All-Americans. 

Patterson's collegiate coaching career began at Lane College as the Defensive Coordinator/Linebacker Coach. His defensive unit finished the 2016 and 2017 seasons with these recognitions:

  • Ranked #1 in Total Defense in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC)
  • 2016 ranked #10 nationally in Total Defense
  • Ranked #12 nationally in Total Defense in 2017
  • Ranked #20 nationally in 2018 in Total Defense.

Several of Patterson's players made all SIAC Conference which also consisted of some All-American linebackers.

From 2012-15, Patterson served as the Head Football Coach for the Bolivar County Outlaws semi-pro team. He completed a record of 41-9 and achieved back-to-back Magnolia League football championships. 

Patterson is very involved in community service endeavors and has participated in many initiatives that focus on social, human, and health services that have helped enhance the lives of others. Giving freely of his time to mentor young students, Patterson strives for excellence in all fields of human endeavor.

As a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, he has served the fraternity as South Central Regional Vice President. Patterson has completed four NFL internships – 2018 and 2019 NFL Career Forum (NFL Front Office,) 2021 NCAA + NFL Football Coaches Academy and 2024 Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching academy.

In January of 2023, Patterson was selected to serve as the distinguished head football coach of Team Crusader in the Dream Bowl for the second consecutive year. This is a college All-Star game held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend in Dallas Texas, and features top FCS, DII and D-III student-athletes. This is a nationally televised game for student-athletes to be evaluated for the NFL Draft. Patterson's Crusaders put on quite the show this year winning the bowl game 49-6. On May 27, 2022, Patterson was named to the Football Scoop Watch List/Rising Star this list had hundreds of nominations, from NFL coaches to all collegiate levels, plus scouts. 

As a coach, Patterson seeks to instill attributes such as teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy competition, camaraderie, civility and goodwill. He emphasizes that athletes must thrive in the classroom and that graduation is the expectation. Patterson has mentored multiple players who were nominated for higher honors including Gregory Junior (NFL Draft Pick CB Jacksonville Jaguars) Andrew Farmer (NFL Player OLB San Diego Chargers); Anthony Evelyn Ojoshua Bunton; Mackenzie Howard; among others. 

The Lane College alumnus received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice an also holds a Master of Education Degree in Leadership in Higher Education from North Central University. Coach Patterson is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership.
