Softball finale at MGCCC moved to Sunday

MOORHEAD – The 2021 regular season finale for the Mississippi Delta Community College softball program has been moved to Sunday due to incoming weather.

MDCC will now play a 1 p.m. Sunday doubleheader instead of the originally scheduled 3 p.m. Saturday doubleheader in Perkinston against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

MDCC vs. NORTHEAST, 4/20

The Trojans traveled to Booneville on Tuesday to face Northeast Mississippi Community College and fell to the Tigers in game one, 4-1, and game two, 11-3.

Layne Tedder (Pontotoc) had two hits and an RBI to lead the offense in the tough game one loss. Gracie Parsons (Southaven) took the loss in the circle despite a complete game effort in which she allowed only four runs.

In game two, the Trojans received an offensive spark from Kyla Williams (Foxworth), who hit a solo home run, and Anna Carlisle (Polkville), who had a double and two RBI. Cearra McPherson (Springdale, Ark.) was the losing pitcher of record in game two.

MDCC vs. PEARL RIVER, 4/17

Delta played host to nationally ranked Pearl River Community College on Sat., Apr. 17 and pulled off a much-needed split with the Lady Wildcats. MDCC won game one, 8-6, before dropping game two, 11-2.

Lexie James (Olive Branch) had a standout first game for Delta, finishing with two hits, including a home run and four RBI. Mary Scott Lofton (Doddsville) and Tedder added two hits of their own and McKinley Newcomer (Columbia) drilled a three-run home run. Parsons grabbed the win in the circle after a complete game gem in which she allowed just six runs.

Newcomer continued her hot hitting in game two with two more hits in the three-run offensive attack. McPherson was the losing pitcher in the second game.

MDCC vs. EAST MISSISSIPPI, 4/15

MDCC traveled to Scooba and East Mississippi Community College on Apr. 15 and dropped the doubleheader after an 8-7 loss in extra innings in game one and a 6-4 loss in game two.

Macey Hill (Dumas) and Newcomer had big games in the opener, as both had a home run and two hits apiece. Morgan Bigbee (Lexington), James and Parsons all had two hits as well in game one. Alexandrea Johnson (Raleigh) was charged with the loss in the circle in the first game.

Madisen Rainey (Water Valley) had three hits in the second game, and was aided in the effort by James, who had a three-run home run. McPherson was the losing pitcher of record in game two, in spite of a complete game effort.

MDCC vs. SOUTHWEST, 4/11

The Trojans faced Southwest Mississippi Community College on Apr. 11 in Summit and suffered a 10-2 loss in game one and an 8-1 loss in game two.

Newcomer had two hits in game one to pace the offense. Parsons was credited with the loss in game one.

Bigbee had two hits in game two, and Johnson was charged with the loss in the circle.
