Continuing to build the program, the efforts of the Mississippi Delta Community College football team did not go unnoticed in post-season honors.
The 2024 All-Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Football Teams have been announced.
The All-MACCC Teams are voted on by each of the conference's 15 football head coaches.
Freshman Punter Ceidrick Hunt, made the MACCC Second Team as well as Defensive Lineman Anthony Johnson. Over nine games, Hunt punted 42 times for 1,461 yards averaging 34.8 yards per punt. His longest was 59 yards. He put 15 of those inside the 20-yard line, seven were fair catches, he had no touchbacks and only one punt was blocked all season.
Trojan Head Coach Tavares Johnson, proud of his team's efforts and these three MACCC honorees, knows his program is headed in the right direction.
"I feel Ceidrick Hunt was solid for us all year his punting and place kicking put us in position to be competitive all season," Coach Johnson said.
The freshman punter was also the Trojan's placekicker and hit 4-of-11 field goals and 14-of-14 extra points for 26 points for the season. His longest field goal was 42 yards this season.
Freshman Anthony Johnson played in seven games and had 39 tackles, two sacks and recovered one fumble. Coach Johnson knows the Union Springs native will just get better and better.
"Anthony Johnson was a dominant force on the defensive line. He was able to come in as a true freshman and pressure the quarterback every game. I am excited to see his development over the next season."
Honorable Mention was given to sophomore defensive back Ja'Bryis Stewart. In nine games, the Crystal Springs native had 53 tackles, one sack, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
"Ja'Bryis Stewart was a great access to the defense. His ability to play in the box and secondary was tremendous and it allowed him to receive over 8 offers to continue his playing career. The ironic thing is we got him from one of our tryouts. He was able to get a scholarship based off of his play," Coach Johnson said.
