Richey Woods serves as the MDCC Trojans Athletic Trainer. Woods, a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where he received his Bachelor of Science and a Delta State University alumnus where he received his Master of Education Degree has worked with The Rehab Institute in Mobile, Alabama as their Outreach Athletic Trainer, Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center in Jackson covering the Mississippi Delta Region from 1991 to 2023. He is also an Adjunct Professor at DSU.
Woods is a Board Certified Athletic Trainer, State Licensed Athletic Trainer and an American Heart Association CPR Instructor.
He has served as the Past President, Vice President, and Director of Professional Improvement for the Mississippi Athletic Trainers Association and is Currently its Parliamentarian.
His awards include:
- 2015 MS Athletic Trainer of the Year
- 2019 National Athletic Trainers Association Service Award
- 2021 MATA Sports Medicine Person of the Year
- 2023 Southeastern Athletic Trainers Association Clinical/Corporate Industrial Athletic Trainer of the Year
- Mid-South Independent School Basketball Assigning Secretary District
Woods has also been a charter member of the MS High School Athletic Association Sports Medicine Advisory Committee since 2004 (still serving) and is the Regional Safety Director for USA Waterski.
