David Kuhn Named Athletic Director and Sports Information Director at Mississippi Delta Community College
David Kuhn began his tenure as the new athletic director and sports information director, effective July 7, 2025. The highly respected collegiate coach and MDCC alumnus brings more than two decades of leadership experience and over 800 career coaching wins to his new role.
A native of Greenville, Mississippi, Kuhn is returning to the Delta after a successful four-year tenure as head softball coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC). While at MGCCC, Kuhn guided the Bulldogs to three consecutive playoff appearances and compiled a record of 131-92. His 2023 team made a dramatic run in the Region 23 Tournament, which included three walk-off victories.
Prior to his time at Gulf Coast, Kuhn spent 13 seasons as head coach at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), where he became the most successful coach in program history with 380 career victories. Under his leadership, UCA won the 2015 Southland Conference Tournament and defeated six nationally ranked teams. Kuhn also served as head coach at Delta State University (DSU), where he remains the all-time wins leader and led the Lady Statesmen to 10 consecutive Gulf South Conference Tournament appearances.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Kuhn is an MDCC graduate who went on to earn a bachelor's degree and a Master of Education in Social Studies from Delta State. His coaching journey began in Mississippi high schools and came full circle through collegiate success at the NJCAA, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division I levels.
"I am so grateful for the opportunity to be the athletic director at Mississippi Delta," said Kuhn. "I'm looking forward to working with the MDCC administration, coaching staff, and student-athletes. I am excited to be coming back home to the Mississippi Delta—I have many friends and family members here. It truly feels like a homecoming."
In addition to overseeing all athletic programs, Kuhn will manage MDCC's sports information efforts, serve as the college's liaison to athletic governing bodies, and lead departmental fundraising and community outreach. He will also be instrumental in launching MDCC's eSports program and advancing the college's commitment to student-athlete success on and off the field.
MDCC President Dr. Steven Jones shared his enthusiasm for Kuhn's appointment, saying, "We are so very fortunate to welcome David Kuhn as our new athletic director/sports information director at Mississippi Delta Community College. Mr. Kuhn understands the importance of student athletes performing at their best on and off the field and/or court. Having successfully coached at Delta State, Central Arkansas, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Mr. Kuhn has the knowledge and experience to help cultivate a winning atmosphere in MDCC athletics. Further, as a native of Greenville, Mississippi, and an MDCC alum, Mr. Kuhn is no stranger to the Mississippi Delta. We are so excited to welcome him home to MDCC. I'm confident that under his leadership, MDCC athletics will be propelled to new heights."
