Coach JaCarious Lucas returns to MDCC as the Trojan defensive backs coach for the 2023 season. The 2005 graduate of East Side High School was a three-year starter as a receiver, quarterback and defensive back. He was signed by MDCC where he played two seasons before moving on to Ole Miss to play receiver for the Rebels for two seasons.

His high school playing career includes being named a two-time All-State honoree, a two-time All-District, a two-time All-Area through Bolivar Commercial publication, Delta Democrat Player of Year, Track and Field Player of the Year and the Lucy Seaberry Honoree of the Year. He was also a 2005 Bernard Blackwell All Star.

Coach Lucas finished his high school junior campaign with 25 receptions, gaining 525 yards and scoring eight touchdowns. Lucas’ senior year stats included 31 receptions, gaining over 1,008 yards while scoring 10 touchdowns making him the first-ever receiver to do so in East Side High School history.

Coach Lucas went on to complete two years of JUCO football at Mississippi Delta Community College under the leadership of head coach Jay Miller. His freshman season consisted of starting at cornerback garnering honorable mention state honors. He finished with 31 tackles, 17 pass deflections and two interceptions. During Lucas's second season, he switched back to the offensive side of the ball as a receiver where he earned Second Team All-State honors finishing the season with over 500 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions.

Upon receiving his AA degree from MDCC, Coach Lucas transferred to the University of Mississippi, where he played for both Head Coaches Ed Ogeron and Houston Nutt. During his time in the best football conference in the country, Lucas earned two letters and helped Ole Miss Rebels win the Magnolia Bowl against Louisiana State University in 2008. He also helped Ole Miss Rebels defeat Texas Tech University in Cotton Bowl championship for the 2009 season.

After College, Coach Lucas went on to play professional indoor football for the Lincoln Haymakers and the Salina Bombers of the CPIFL. In 2016 Lucas was drafted by the Utah Stand of the MLFB. 

His coching career includes working as an Assistant Coach at East Side High School in 2013 under Head Coach Kendrick Woodard leadership. Helped lead the team to third round of MHSAA playoffs.

Lucas is married to Jessica Lynn with four children, Jeffrey, De'Andre, Montira and Korbyn.
