Men's hoops goes to CCC for first round

MOORHEAD – The first round of the Region XXIII tournament gets underway on Tuesday for the Mississippi Delta Community College men's basketball team and has the Trojans heading to Clarksdale to face bitter rival Coahoma Community College at 6 p.m.

This will mark the third matchup of the 2021 season between the teams, with the previous two matchups being an equal split between the Trojans of MDCC and the Tigers of Coahoma. The winner of the contest will face off with MACCC state champion Pearl River Community College on Thursday in Poplarville.

MDCC will carry a two-game winning streak into the playoffs after a 63-52 win over Itawamba Community College on Saturday and a 68-41 victory over Faith Prep on Thursday.

Ta'Bias Parks (Greenville) was the leading scorer for the Trojans in the win against ICC, as he poured in 18 points, to go along with seven rebounds.

Willie Eagins, Jr., (Jonestown) added 13 points to aid in the victory.

MDCC vs FAITH PREP, 3/25

Eagins, Jr. had a huge statistical night in West Memphis, Ark., on Thursday, finishing with 23 points, eight steals, six assists and five rebounds in the blowout victory.

All five starters scored in double digits, including 12 points each from Shamarvious Hodges (Indianola) and Wisdom Kowouto (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), 11 points from Parks and 10 points from Chavis Banks (Yazoo City).
