Softball moves up DH with Hinds to Friday

MOORHEAD – The Mississippi Delta Community College softball team was scheduled to host Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) rival Hinds Community College on Saturday in Moorhead, but the doubleheader has been moved ahead a day to Friday, 3/12.

The double dip will still get underway at 1 p.m. at the Carl and Brenda Grubb Softball Complex on the Moorhead Campus.

The last week of games has been rather busy for the Trojans, and here is a snapshot of the latest results.

MDCC vs. ITAWAMBA, 3/9/21

Delta played host to perennial power Itawamba Community College on Tuesday, and although the effort was hard fought, MDCC came up short. The Trojans dropped game one, 13-6, before losing game two, 9-1.

Hope Crider (Florence, Ala.), Madisen Rainey (Water Valley) and Layne Tedder (Pontotoc) each had two hits in the opener to lead the Delta offensive charge. Gracie Parsons (Southaven) took the loss in the circle in game one.

Lexie James (Olive Branch) drove in the lone run in game two for the Trojans with a solo home run. Cassidy Simmons (Aberdeen) drew the loss in the Tuesday nightcap.

MDCC vs. COAHOMA, 3/8/21

Delta broke out the bats in a big way on Monday, coming away with a two-game sweep of CCC after winning the first game, 13-1, and the second game, 9-1.

In game one, Masyn Coleman (Liberty) was a perfect three-for-three with an RBI, while Rainey had three hits and an RBI of her own. Macey Hill (Dumas) had a huge game one, as her double and home run led to a six RBI opener. Emma Colwart (Mandeville, La.) had two hits as well, and Tedder added a home run of her own. Cearra McPherson (Springdale, Ark.) was the winner in the circle after a complete game effort in which she allowed just three hits and one run to cross.

In the second game, Rainey was the heavy hitter again with a perfect three-for-three effort and two RBI. Morgan Bigbee (Lexington) had two hits and two RBI on the strength of a home run. Parsons earned the win in the circle with a complete game effort of her own, one in which she allowed just five hits and one run.

MDCC vs. JONES, 3/6/21

MDCC hosted nationally ranked Jones College on Saturday and was unable to pick up a win in the doubleheader, falling 31-0 in game one and 9-0 in game two.

Rainey led the way in game one, as she was the lone Trojans hitter with multiple hits with two. Parsons took the loss in the circle in the opener.

Bigbee and Colwart each had a hit in the second game to pace MDCC. McPherson earned the loss in the second game.

MDCC vs. MERIDIAN, 2/27/21

Delta opened MACCC play on Saturday, Feb. 27, when they hit the road to Meridian Community College. MDCC dropped the first contest, 13-5, before winning game two, 14-4.
