MOORHEAD – The incoming weather over the weekend will force a change in schedule for the Mississippi Delta Community College softball program, as the Trojans will now head to Summit to face Southwest Mississippi Community College on Sunday instead of the original date of Saturday.
MDCC is nearing the end of the 2021 regular season and have played a number of recent doubleheaders. Here is a recap of the latest action:
MDCC vs. NORTHWEST, 4/6/21
Delta played host to Northwest Mississippi Community College on Tuesday and fell in the two-game set to the Rangers after dropping game one, 21-10, and game two, 14-0.
McKinley Newcomer (Columbia) was the heavy hitter for MDCC in the opener after going 3-4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBI. Kyla Williams (Foxworth) added two doubles of her own, and Emma Colwart (Mandeville, La.) and Mary Scott Lofton (Doddsville) chipped in with two hits.
Alexandrea Johnson (Raleigh) was charged with the loss in the circle in game one.
Morgan Bigbee (Lexington) led the way on offense in game two with two doubles, but the Trojans were unable to cross the plate in the loss.
Gracie Parsons (Southaven) took the loss in the circle in game two.
MDCC vs. HOLMES, 4/1/21
The Trojans stepped out of Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) play on the first day of April, welcoming Holmes Community College to Moorhead for a non-conference double dip.
MDCC lost a tough one in game one, 8-5, and then fell 10-1 in game two.
In the first game, Delta was led by Layne Tedder (Pontotoc), who had two hits, a home run and two RBI. Macey Hill (Dumas) added a solo home run as well.
Johnson took the loss in the opener in the circle.
Newcomer had two hits in game two to lead the offense, and was helped out by Faith Shankle (Senatobia), who had a hit and RBI.
Parsons was the losing pitcher in the second game.
MDCC vs. COPIAH-LINCOLN, 3/28/21
MDCC hosted Copiah-Lincoln Community College on March 28 and dropped the doubleheader after an 11-1 loss in game one and 8-1 defeat in game two.
Bigbee had a double in game one, and Colwart walked twice and scored a run in the first game of the doubleheader. Johnson was credited with the loss in game one.
Bigbee added a double and scored a run in game two, and Parsons was charged with the loss in the circle.
UP NEXT
MDCC (3-15 in MACCC play) travels to Southwest on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Summit. The Trojans will stay on the road for a doubleheader at East Mississippi Community College on April 14.
