Carols Romeril Bonner – Football 1989-1991
Bigger schools recruited Greenwood High School standout but his athletic path began at Moorhead. Bonner admits he wasn’t quite ready and coming to Moorhead put him on the right path on and off the field.
“Biology teacher Magdalene Abraham told me I was one of the best athletes she had ever seen but in that process, I was one of the laziest students,” Bonner said. “She gave me some tough love and I still tell her I appreciate what she did. It put me on the right path. I did the right thing when I went to Moorhead.”
On the gridiron, Bonner led the Trojans to consecutive appearances in the JUCO State Championship game with an impressive record of 16-4. He also participated in the State Junior College All-Star game in Booneville and was voted the Trojans’ Most Valuable Player during his sophomore year.
His on-the-field prowess garnered him a scholarship at Delta State University, where he was a two-time All Gulf South Conference Player in the 1992 and 1993 seasons. He was also the team’s 1993 Most Valuable Player. He finished his career with 96 receptions for the Statesmen. Bonner currently coaches and teaches at Greenwood High School.
