Women's basketball grabs first win

MOORHEAD – After a number of close calls in the 2021 season, the Mississippi Delta Community College women's basketball team was able to pick up their first win, 84-74, over Holmes Community College on Monday night in Moorhead.

MDCC had traveled to Coahoma Community College in their prior contest on Feb. 25, but fell to the Tigers, 69-49.

The Trojans played host to Holmes at the beginning of the week in Moorhead, and put forth their best effort to date, led by Rodericka Parker (Selma, Ala.). The freshman guard ended the night with 21 points, including a perfect eight-for-eight from the charity stripe. She also had seven assists and a steal in the win.

Makia Willis (Lumberton) had a big night as well, adding 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals.

MDCC vs COAHOMA, 2/25

An'Teresa Dickson (Memphis, Tenn.) and Willis each had 14 points in the loss to Coahoma. Quintaria McCray (Greenville) chipped in with nine points.

UP NEXT

MDCC heads to Senatobia on Monday evening to take on Northwest Mississippi Community College. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
