Lady Trojans Pick Up Road Win Against Northeast

Notching their fifth win of the season against only three losses, the Lady Trojans picked up a road win against Northeast (3-5) on Tuesday, 72-69. The ladies round out the first half of their season on Thursday on the road against South Arkansas Community College (1-6). They'll be off for Christmas break until they open on the road in women's/men doubleheader conference matchup with Itawamba Community College on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

The Lady Trojans led after the first quarter, 16-12 but the Lady Tigers put up 16 in the second as MDCC could only muster eight points and were down 28-24. Each team's offense picked up in the third as MDCC put up 28 points and Northeast put up 20. With their slim three-point lead, the Lady Trojans put up 20 more points but allowed Northeast 20 and MDCC pulled out the three-point win.

Freshman Cha'Myrean Ellis led the Lady Trojans with 21 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. Freshman Shakendalah Jones added 16 points, four assists and two steals while sophomore Santia Robinson had 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists. As a team the Lady Trojans had 35 rebounds – 18 offensive and 17 defensive – as well as 21 assists, 14 steals and six blocked shots. The team shot 62 percent from the free throw line on 16-of-26 shooting. They were 41 percent from the field on 26-of-64 shots and hit 4-of-17 three-point tries for 24 percent. The team had 19 turnovers but forced Northeast to have 26.

Last week, the Lady Trojans took down East Central (3-5) on the road with a 55-43 win. MDCC held a slim 25-22 lead at halftime and each team put up 11 points in the third but the Lady Trojans pulled away in the fourth outscoring East Central 19-10 for the 12 point win. Freshman Ti'Alone Banks came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 11 points while picking up six rebounds. Freshman Tariyah Washington had nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. The ladies shot 40 percent from the field hitting 22-of-55 shots, no three-pointers (0-for-3) and hit only 11-of-26 free throws for 42 percent. They outrebounded East Central 39-31 and forced them into 25 turnovers on the night.
