Winning games and staying in the Top 8 of the MACCC rankings is the goal for the Mississippi Delta Community College Lady Trojan basketball team. Head Coach Tangela Banks continues to push her young squad so they make and will be ready for post-season play. With a 12-7 overall record and 4-4 MACCC tally, the Lady Trojans are in sixth place. This past Monday the team picked up a home win against Holmes Community College, 71-52.

Cha'Myrean Ellis led the team with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman point guard Tariyah Washington picked up a double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists to go along with her one block and five points. Ti'Alone Banks contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Shakendalah Jones came off the bench to add 11 points and three rebounds. Reshya Hudson came off the bench with eight points and five rebounds.

"Hudson played a great game on defense. Tariyah had a pretty good game and did a lot of facilitating. Overall, they played team ball with a major emphasis on defense," Coach Banks said.

The team shot 45 percent from the field on 25-56 shots. They also hit 6-of-13 three-pointers for 46 percent and hit 79 percent of their free throws on 15-of-19 shooting.

"We played hard the whole game. We had lost that Thursday game and we keep giving games away. Our freshmen just don't know how to win so every practice we play like we're down every quarter," Coach Banks said.

The Lady Trojans host Northeast Community College (7-11 overall and 3-5 MACCC.)

"We need that home game," she said. "We are struggling to stay in that number six spot."

With a week off before the Northeast game, Coach Banks will focus on fundamentals.

"We are going to do skill development and work on the things we have not been capitalizing on – offense and defense," she said.
